Offshore exploration well spudded in the Natuna Sea

An offshore exploration well has been spudded by Indonesia’s Medco Energi at its multi-field oil and gas complex in Block B in the Natuna Sea. In 1986, the Natuna Sea was recognised officially as its’ own entity by the International Hydrographic Organisation as it was previously acknowledged as part of the South China Sea.

The initial process has been done through semi-submersible Hakuryu-5, the first semi-submersible spudding in Indonesia. The spudding commenced on 13th December 2019 and includes a contract to cover two firm wells in around 123 days. The production sharing contract (PSC) includes Medco E&P Natuna Ltd. (40%), Medco Daya Abadi Lestari (35%) and Prime Natuna Inc. (25%).

Medco’s latest exploration report mentioned that the company is preparing to drill an exploration well in South Natuna Sea Block B in the fourth quarter of 2019. Apart from these wells, Block B contains other fields as well such as Belanak, Belida, North Belut, Kerisi and Hang Tuah.
