JX Nippon starts oil production off Malaysia

Japanese petroleum giant JX Nippon has commenced oil production from a newly installed floating production, storage and offloading vessel at the Layang field off Malaysia. The partnership between the giant’s subsidiary in Malaysia and Petronas Carigali, which started
from 3rd December 2019, is being handled by Helang FPSO, a company owned by Yinson Holdings. The estimated output from this field is about 3000 barrels per day and about 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day when combined with gas.

The company also has plans to use the floater for production from the Helang field, located in the same Block – SK10. This will add an extra 10,000 barrels per day, approximately.

Speaking on the event, a JX Nippon representative said: “With the expected steady growth of oil and natural gas demand in Asia, we will continue to maintain and strengthen our long – term good relationship with Malaysia and enhance our capacity to raise revenue through our exploration and production business activity as an operator.”
