SapuraOMV Upstream has started production of gas on its Larak field, a maiden project on Block SK 408 production, located at Sarawak in East Malaysia. The SK 408 fields were originally discovered during a 2014 drilling campaign. The project is at the initial development phase where commercialisation of the Gorek, Larak and Bekong fields are being carried out. The fields are being tied back to an existing processing facility so that the gas can be sent via pipeline to the Petronas LNG Complex located at Bintulu in Sarawak.
SapuraOMV is a 50:50 Exploration and Production joint venture between Malaysia’s Sapura Energy and OMV of Austria. The Larak and Bakong fields are operated by Sapura OMV on behalf of partners Shell and Petronas Carigali. Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell is the operator for the Gorek field.
This SK408 project is Sapura OMV’s second major gas development project in East Malaysia, the first being the B15 field on Block SK310. Once the first phase gets over, Sapura OMV’s output is expected to increase to more than 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, with gas accounting for the majority.
