SynergenOG, the leading process safety and risk management consultant in the energy sector, is setting the bar high for employee safety. In line with their commitment, a comprehensive first aid training program was recently held for the staff at the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia office.
The event, charting a significant part of SynergenOG’s employee welfare initiative, was divided into several sessions, each dealing with crucial aspects of first aid.
A Multi-faceted Approach to Training
The program kicked off with a theory session on the fundamentals of basic life support. This critical session covered various important topics like clinical and brain death, common causes of sudden death, and the operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). It also addressed emergency action principles and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines for adults, children, and infants, and outlined the recovery position.
Taking the theory into practice, the following session had participants learning and demonstrating cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for different age groups and the correct positions for safe recovery.
Building upon this knowledge, there was an instructional session on foreign body airway obstruction—commonly known as choking. Participants were enlightened on identifying signs and symptoms, managing an obstruction situation for adults, children, and infants, and dealing with special considerations such as pregnancy and obesity. The well-known Heimlich Maneuver was a key takeaway from this session.
Preparedness for All Situations
The training also focused on specific emergency scenarios, with detailed sessions on Burns and Scalds, as well as Shock. Employees learnt about different types of burns—thermal, chemical, and electric—understanding their causes and appropriate response under each circumstance. The shock session delved into understanding its causes, progression, and crucially, the care needed to prevent deteriorating conditions.
